Health classes explained
Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus, Standard—what these tiers signify and what decides your spot.
Carriers slot term insurance into rate classes. Naming differs a touch from firm to firm, but the hierarchy stays: Preferred Plus (sometimes Super Preferred or Preferred Best), Preferred, Standard Plus, and Standard, with surcharges for above-average hazard. Smokers get their own row of classes priced higher.
What underwriters look at
Your physique (height, weight), BP and lipid counts, whether your relatives had cardiac or cancer trouble before turning 60, your driving sheet, what meds you take, your line of work and spare time pursuits, and any nicotine or tobacco. Top class requires near-perfect marks across the board; Preferred is more flexible; Standard Plus and Standard tolerate managed issues like hypertension on medication.
How to use the quote tool
The health prompt wants you to be frank: Excellent corresponds to Preferred Plus, Very good to Preferred, Good to Standard Plus, Average to Standard. Your quote follows that tier; the carrier locks your final tier after review. Torn between two? Quote both, line them up, then let the application verify. Picking a rosier class won't shrink your real premium—just muddies the estimate.
Susman Insurance Agency can point you toward underwriting firms with looser standards for your particular situation—that often trumps whatever the advertised price says.
